Jesus of Nazareth

Jesus of Nazareth also known as Jesus Christ was the founder of Christian faith. He was born more than 2,000 years ago. It is believed that he was born no later than 4 B.C.E. in Bethlehem, Judea. He was born during the reign of Augustus. His father was Joseph and his mother was Mary. It is believed that Jesus was miraculously born to the Virgin Mary.  He grew up in Galilee where much of his ministry took place.
Little is known about Jesus’ childhood and youth. Those around him only knew him as a carpenter of Nazareth.  One thing that is known is that he interacted with John the Baptist. John the Baptist was a prophet preacher who emerged from the wilderness and called on the people to repent and be baptized. Jesus heard John’s preaching and joined the crowds of people to get baptized in the Jordan River. After his baptism Jesus went into the desert for prayer and meditation. It was after his baptism that he became known more by people all around.
Jesus taught people in small groups or large gatherings. He sayings were reported to be friendly conversations. At times he taught in stories or parables. The rest of Jesus’ teachings were about the reign of God. To some people Jesus was a teacher or rabbi. But Jesus was a teacher of unique power so he was sometimes thought of as a prophet. Jesus also preformed many miracles. Through the years there has been much disagreement about the miracles he performed. Most people in civilizations that read the Bible and were influenced by it believed in the miracles that Jesus performed.
The historical existence of Jesus as a person is completely different from religious discussions. Scholars have no doubt about how Jesus died. They fully agreed that he was crucified in Pontius Pilate. They also fully agree with no doubt that he existed and was baptized.
